Pastor :
Reverend Marc V. Mason
The Reverend Marc V. Mason will arrive at
Trinity to begin his duties on Monday, February 21. His first sermon
will be on Sunday, February 27. We welcome the Rev. Mason and his
family to Travelers Rest.
A graduate of Princeton
Theological Seminary in 1992, Marc was ordained to the Ministry of Word and
Sacrament in the Presbytery of South Alabama and served as Associate Pastor
for Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope, Alabama. His ministry as an
Associate focused on new member assimilation, Christian Education, and youth
work. In 1994 he was appointed to the National Board of Directors for the
LOGOS System Associates youth ministry organization and continued to serve
until 2001.
In 1996 Marc was called
as Pastor of Princeton Presbyterian Church in Springfield, PA. In 1999
Purity Presbyterian Church in Chester, SC called Marc to help lead them into
new areas of youth and family ministry. Sensing that God was calling him
and his family to new and increased challenges, Marc opened himself to a new
call in 2004. After learning of the exciting and expanding ministry with
which God has blessed Trinity Presbyterian in Travelers Rest, he and
Trinity’s PNC began a wonderful and fruitful new relationship through
dialogue and visits. Believing that God has drawn them together to walk
faithfully into the future, Mark is prayerfully and eagerly looking forward
to serving God’s family of children gathered as Trinity Presbyterian Church
and serving as a member of Foothills Presbytery.
Marc and Leslie Mason
have been married for 17 wonderful years and God has blessed them with two
beautiful and talented daughters, Jessica Josephine (12) and Emily Ann (11).
Organist/Choirmaster:
Mr. Don Shabkie
Don Shabkie has served as Trinity Presbyterian's music director for
15 years. He plays organ, piano, and Celtic harp. As an active
composer, he writes or arranges a good portion of the music
presented at Trinity through the chancel and handbell choirs, as
well as some of the best soloists available in the area. It is Don's
privilege to have in the Trinity membership--Lisa Barksdale and Les
Hicken, both of the music faculty at Furman University, and strings
instructor Lucie Fink. These individuals, in addition to their
significant contributions to special music in the services, also
provide a network of students, both high school and Furman music
majors, who play a vital role in Trinity's music.
At present, in addition to teaching piano at his studio in
Greenville, Don serves as an adjunct accompanist at Furman
University, where he appears in many recitals with students from the
music department. In addition, he is a frequent concert performer,
with his next performance being on Trinity's Concert Series on
February 12, 2006. He has received numerous commissions for original
works, the most recent one from the Emrys Foundation of Greenville,
for a performance with the dance students at the Fine Arts Center in
Greenville.
Formerly the full-time Dance Musician at Columbia College, he
has also served as a Dance Musician at SC Governor's School. For
more information on work, please see his website at:
